Strada Tank - an Analogue Knitting Pattern
This summer, I set myself the challenge of creating a knitting pattern without using digital technology. And admittedly, it was more difficult than I expected! Sure, we have all jotted down knitting instructions using pen and paper at one point or another, sketched out schematics by hand, even made calculations the old fashioned way. But a full-fledged knitting pattern, with stitch counts for an extensive range of sizes, complete instructions, diagrams, and so on?
In striving to accomplish this without digital assistance, I ended up re-examining what we have come to accept as the standard structure of knitting patterns. The result is a compact, comprehensive, quirky, and colourful creation, which I hope you find intuitive (and, perhaps most importantly, legible!)
Aside from digitising and uploading the finished product, this Special Edition version of the Strada Tank was created using only analogue methods: pen, pencils, scissors, a hand-held calculator, and printed photos. Hand-written instructions are accompanied by drawn diagrams, and all information typically included in a knitting pattern is provided.
And should you find the analogue Strada too eccentric? Not to worry. The pattern includes a download code, giving you access to the digital version of Strada when it is released on ravelry in a few weeks time.
After the pattern’s digital release, this analogue Special Edition of Strada will no longer be sold, making it a whimsical little experiment that you are welcome to partake in for a limited time only.
