WORKSHOP: ENGAGING WITH GAUGE {SOLD OUT}
Greencastle, Donegal
27th June, 2025
1pm - 4pm
Join us on Friday, 27th of June for a hands-on workshop that will enable you to master gauge and tension, once and for all.
Starting with a tactile investigation of knitted fabrics, this workshop is designed to organically guide the knitter toward a firm understanding of what gauge actually is. We can then delve into matters such as needle size selection, swatching, blocking, and custom calculations. Finally, we will explore the ways in which different types of stitches, techniques, and personal quirks can affect gauge, and learn how to adjust our process accordingly. Alongside the practical and theoretical, we will also look at gauge in a historical context - discussing some interesting ways in which evolving knitting practices have altered fabric construction and knitters’ expectations.
The workshop is structured in two instructional blocs of 1 hour 10 minutes each, with a 30 minute social/ snack break in between, and an additional 10 minute Q&A at the end.
