WORKSHOP: CONTINENTAL KNITTING 'PEASANT-STYLE'

€40.00
sold out

Greencastle, Donegal
18th JULY, 2025
1pm - 4pm

Join us on Friday, 18th of July for an intensive introduction to my preferred method of knitting.

The simplest, fastest, and most ergonomic knitting method, some refer to it as ‘Eastern Continental,’ and some refer to it as ‘Continental Uncrossed.’ As an old-school native of the technique, I feel the name ‘Peasant Style’ to be a more accurate reflection of its origins. All this and more shall be explained in the workshop!

But for the most part, there will be more knitting than talking.

Starting from scratch, we will begin by (re-)learning how to hold needles and yarn. We will then master the knit and purl stitch, both flat and in the round. And once the movements become familiar, we will discover how to adapt certain techniques, such as increasing, decreasing, working cables, and lacework.

The workshop is structured in two instructional blocs of 1 hour 15 minutes each, with a 20 minute social/ snack break in between, and an additional 10 minute Q&A at the end.

AMENITIES

The Jetty Cafe is located across the street from my studio, serving breakfast and lunch on weekdays, and also dinner on weekends.

For dinner after the workshop, the scenic and delicious Sultan Castle (Indian cuisine) is only a 5 minute walk up the road.

If you are traveling by car (or bicycle!), you can explore additional restaurants in nearby Moville and Culdaff,

And if you wish to stay overnight, please let me know and I will connect you with some amazing local B&B hosts.

OTHER THINGS TO DO

The Greencastle Shore Walk and the Inshowen Maritime Museum are a must to visit, and are easily accessible on foot.

The working pier upon which my studio is located is in itself interesting, with lots of fishing and boat building activity happening. However, please be cautious and respectful of any operations in progress; the pier is not set up for visitors and there is often heavy and hazardous machinery in use.

CAN I BRING MY SPOUSE, CHILD, FRIEND, OR PET?

Each workshop space is for one participating human adult only. Thank you for understanding!
