Intricate and labour-intensive, textured knitting has attained a somewhat mythical status for the supposed symbolism of its motifs - often attributed to seafaring lore. And while historical research has shown this to be a marketing invention of the fashion industry, there nonetheless remains a yearning to find meaning in the sequences of knots and bumps and holes and tangles. I explore this idea with a collection of pieces featuring cables and lace.
